Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs Professional Association presents a local employee with the Herman S. Prescott Award on the state level (the winner then qualifies for the regional award and potentially the national award). The award is given to a professional whose career of dedicated service enhances the rights and dignity of all while promoting the involvement of women and minorities.

An outstanding Youth Development Worker shows commitment, creativity and leadership, making a significant impact on their program’s youth, families and community. In 2009, Dolly Mendez was honored for her dedication and mentorship. A SMART Moves instructor since 2006, Dolly is a lead teacher for one of our kindergarten classes through the NJA3 Building Healthy Communities program and was instrumental to the “Speak Out for Peace” Project that led to our 2008 Promising Practice Award.

This award is given annually to the employee who best exemplifies what it means to be a BGCN employee. The recipient, chosen by staff colleagues, is presented with a BGCN varsity jacket, a bonus check and a beautiful BGCN award.

For the past 22 years, Clubs have been showcasing their outstanding activities. In 2008, BGCN received the Bronze Award for our Marketing & Communications in the category of Publicity and Media Relations. The award was in recognition of media coverage we received highlighting our programs and services.
