Ade’Kamil K., a junior at East Orange Campus High was re-elected president, and is the only executive committee member re-elected from the previous committee. Savannah D., a junior at Science Park High School was elected to the chair of vice-president. Savannah’s twin sister Tatianah D., also a junior at Science Park High School was elected to the chair of secretary. To round the group off, Asha F. a junior at Kent Place was elected to the chair of treasurer. The four executive members will lead a group of 10 club members on a journey to raise $10,000 dollars by January 1, 2014 in time to register for the National Keystone Conference in Anaheim California. We bid them good luck on their journey.

Following the glass, instructor Nick V., club members and staff jammed out on the guitar and other instruments in the teen center. The next class will be on May, 14, 2013. See pictures from the day’s event below!

Uno Marathon Champion! Xavier Haywood!

On Friday, 4/26/2013, teen club members and Director of Teen Services, Ameer  Washington, competed in the Uno Marathon Championship in the teen center. Daily, members pitted their Uno skill against one another for fun and bragging rights. Friday night brought upon 10 consecutive games of Uno to see who could come out on top. There were a total of 8 participants and only three could earn points each game. For 1^st place: 25pts, 2^nd place: 10pts, and 3^rd place: 5 pts. Mr. Washington emerged with the most points after 10 games with 80pts, but allowed the teens to play a grudge round so that a teen member could win the grand prize. Xavier Haywood, filling in for Robin D. emerged victorious in the final round with 70pts. For his victory, Xavier won his own personal pack of Uno cards and a half gallon of his favorite ice cream, French Vanilla. Ade K., 2013 Youth of the Year won a consolation half gallon of French Vanilla ice cream for coming in second place during a “supposed controversial” loss. Good luck next time Ade
