Students from Mr. Powell class and Ms. Doris Forth Grade
We have been awarded the Build Volunteer Badge for their effort building the Central Clubhouse’s new playground with KaBOOM! And just think, kids wouldn’t have a safe place to play without the hundreds of volunteers that showed their support on Preparation & Build Day!
We want to send a big CONGRATULATIONS to NJ Youth Service Awards winners, Jenna Berkenkamp & Caroyln Rauch, our Tennis & Tutoring Initiative girls! They have undoubtedly made a HUGE impact on our participating children, and have made many friends and memories at the Central Clubhouse. These girls are truly an inspiration to the young female members. Way to go girls!
We would like to welcome Jimmy Perotte to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark. Mr. Jimmy is a graduate of Rutgers University and has been hired as our new Outreach Coordinator!
A big Thank You to Rutgers for coming out and making our club more beautiful. Rutgers did a fantastic job with painting the girls/boys bathrooms and program doors. It shows great partnership by caring about the kids and making a difference in the community. We hope that this will be a long lasting relationship!
It was a weekend of Camping, Team Building Activities and building new friendships. Five of our youth had the opportunity to participate in this weekend full of Fun and Excitement. Many of them have never been camping or at least walked through the woods. There were various youth groups from the City of Newark that attended such as; UVSO, Aspira, UMDNJ, and Rutgers. This was a great experience for all that was present.
Thanks to PLC, Victoria Foundation, PBC and Prudential!
The Central Ward Clubhouse received a makeover on Thursday by having volunteers from Prudential come and paint the first floor of the building and complete landscaping on the outside grounds. The clubhouse members and staff appreciate Prudentials time, support and dedication for their effortless giving. Thank you, Prudential!
Congrats to our Tennis and Tutoring Initiative girls Jenna Berkenkamp and Carolyn Rauch from Millburn, NJ. They have received NJ’s 2011 Service to Youth Award administered by the Star-Ledger, the Community Foundation of New Jersey and the Governer’s Office of Volunteerism. Way to go, girls!
Burnet and Newton Street School played hard, facing off to earn the Newark Global Village School Zone, BGCN Title! After beating Cleveland earlier in the school year, Burnet has worked hard to practice and become the best team they can be! A long game, where both teams played their best, both Burnet’s JV and Varsity squads won and were awarded their Village Champ Trophy! Staff were recognized with medals for having done a great job with the Community Charity Game as well as Game Part 2. Burnet Cheerleaders also did an outstanding job working together and cheering their team on. Congratulations Burnet! You made us proud!
