BGCN offers award-winning programs that take into account the physical, emotional, developmental, cultural and social needs of boys and girls. Our diversified programs encourage activities with adults, peers and family members, enabling kids to enhance self-esteem and fulfill their potential.
In recognition of our Health Literacy Program
Each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America celebrates program excellence in five core program areas with the annual Honor Awards. Clubs can receive an Honor Award or a Merit Award for program excellence. In 2009, BGCN received a Merit Award in the Education & Career Development category for our Health Literacy program, an initiative that helps older members teach younger members to read.
This award, presented to only eight Clubs across the country, recognized our innovative use of the CareerLaunch program to enhance career preparedness initiatives at the local level.
In recognition of our Teen Leadership Academy
The Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey recognized BGCN with the first annual Best Program Practice Award for our Teen Leadership Academy (TLA). TLA helps teens prepare for High School and College, teaching them leadership concepts and skills.
In 2008, BGCN was honored by NJA3 for Promising Practices in the category of Social Justice/Program Culture. Members of the program engaged in a quilting project, “Celebrating Through Quilting,” which celebrated various holidays and events. The project promoted an appreciation of the visual arts and nurtured relationships among schools, parents, club members, staff and community partners.
In 2008, BGCN was honored by NJA3 for Promising Practices in the category of staffing. Our weekly staff meetings are guided by a formal, detailed agenda that promotes documentation and accomplishment of tasks. This system helps to build team spirit and interpersonal communication between staff and site coordinators.
